Since Luminar Group Holdings plc began trading in 1988 in Kings Lynn, we have grown into the UK's largest operator of licensed late-night venues. Luminar floated and became listed on the London Stock Exchange in May 1996 with a market capitalisation of £30 million. Since flotation we have continued with the steady but rapid rise in our portfolio of brands and venues, both by development and acquisition.
In December 1999, Luminar Group Holdings plc purchased 27 venues from Allied Leisure for £35 million. This major purchase gave us our first foothold in both Scotland and central London. Shortly afterwards came the bigger acquisition of our main competitor at that time, Northern Leisure plc in July 2000, making Luminar the largest late-night operator in the UK.
In November 2006, we announced our strategy for creating the UK's leading destination entertainment business - selling space, event management and escapism. We are dedicated to creating environments where the intoxication comes from the atmosphere and event.
